Lake Barrine oh how I treasure you. At the time of writing this I am fortunate to live just a short drive from this incredibly beautiful ancient volcanic crater lake. I visit often, at all times of the day and in all kinds of weather.
You can find this pristine lake on the Atherton Tablelands about 1.5hrs from Cairns if you take the Gillies range. There is a Teahouse right on the lake that is a tranquil place to have a Coffee - (not a fan) or Tea and scones, sit back and be one with the serenity of the rainforest and water.
It can get quite busy however the energy here is very strong and interrupted so despite the bustle of tourists and visitors it can still feel like it's just your own private wild ancient rainforest.
Lake Barrine is famous for the bull kauris (Agathis microstachya) pines, they are over 50m metres tall and more than 6m in girth. They are the largest of Australia's 38 conifer (pine) species and are estimated to be more than 1000 years old.
There are two trees quite close to the beginning of the 5k walk around which most people go to see and I have counted another 7 that I can see from the walking track or looking from various spots out on the lake.
They really are incredible trees. Medicine Trees specifically positioned in this area to anchor remembrance. What I mean by that is Medicine Trees are anchor points for connection. These rainforrest giants are home to thousands of different insects, creatures, birds, animals, reptiles, mycelium, vines and other plants. Their roots hundereds of metres deep in the Earth, wide throughout the rainforrest floor and beyond, drinking of the lakes pristine water and sending it out to the other trees.
Years before they set up the protection railings I used to sit with back against them, my hands placed on their old old trunks. There are many many stories trees remember, sometimes they are very talkative while other times they make the best listeners.
During a particular time in my life when I was doing a lot of ceremonial work, these Giants told me to take some of their bark home, put it on my alter and sit with them. This taught me a lot about how trees communicate, how gentle and kind they are, how much they love.
To know myself as the trees of Lake Barrine is to know stillness, death and decay, power, strength and resilience. Sometimes they help me access Tree Me, other times they speak guidance, clarity and share stories from the dreaming.
It was sometime after the Lions gate of 2024 but not yet Summer Solstice, the storms came in early that year, the energy was heavy, infiltration and distortion at an all time high - the matrix was glitching big time with NPC's and Alien like beings easily uncamoflaged. When it gets like this I spend as much time in untouched nature as I can.
I went for a walk around the lake, it was late already around 4pm, the storm clouds making it darker than usual for that time, I knew I wouldn't make it back before the storm came so hearing the call of the trees warning me to take shelter I burrowed in close to a trunk, in between buttress and under aerial roots of a giant fig that told me I would be safe with him.
It wasn't just any storm, from my viewpoint up against the trunk, looking out across the lake the water rose quickly from the torrential hard rain and soon winds were whipping up wave upon wave of silver black water with white tips. Water was running down the side of the mountain directly beside me through the trees and into the lake, the forrest was alive with redesign, wild abandon and transformation. The whole world was shifting and changing around me and in the brief but very powerful moments I was afraid for my life, the sturdy Old Tree gently but firmly instrucyed me to stay put. He then proceeded to open a rift in the fabric of space in front of me, into which I could see what was transpiring out there in the world at this moment in time, how the seals between this world and other more distorted frequencies had huge tears in them, what was beheld by my eyes was previously unimagionalbe pain, loss, destruction and truth so hard that when it landed I was winded and needed quite a few deep breaths to regain my sight and bearings. He told me that himself and this rainforest was protecting me, that I would be ok, to trust I was where I needed to be for the events that were about to unfold energetically in my local area.
I have always felt safer in natural places over cities, closer to the land and mountains I can flee to if necessary.
What went down in that unleash I dare not access fully again for fear of unlocking that terrifying vault marked - Do Not Open Ever! Flashes of violent lightening sharp reminders of the other things that happen here.
The trees of Lake Barrine, keepers and transformers of dark and hidden forces so powerful the world could not survive them. The trees of Lake Barrine, children and allies of the Divine Earth Mother Gaia, silent gallant protectors, guardians, wind dancers, homes to creatures of this world and others, portals to the deeper realms of Nature and the Dreaming of Earth. A word of gentle caution when entering Rainforests - make sure there is a path that belongs to this realm and stay on it.
